Pune: A 48-year-old farmer, who also was a director of a cooperative bank, allegedly committed suicide in Indapur and blamed severe water scarcity and financial losses for it. He also blamed Water Resources Minister Vijay Shivtare and District Guardian Minister Girish Bapat for the situation. 

The deceased, Vasant Sopan Pawar, a resident of Belwadi village near Indapur, was also one of the directors of the Indapur Co-operative Bank. He jumped into a well. The police found the suicide note in his pocket. 

Police said, Pawar closed his shop in Lasurne village but didn’t return home on Saturday night. His body was found in a well near his house on Sunday around 10 am. The note states that because of lack of planning by the Irrigation Department, the area received very less water and farmers got in debts. The police said he is survived by his wife, two daughters and son.
