Flawless counting in Pune district: Ram

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: “The counting in Pune district has been flawless. We have followed the method meticulously, as there was no pressure of any deadline,” said Naval Kishore Ram, District Collector.

As many as 5,000 staff were deployed at the counting stations - FCI Godown, Koregaon Park and Balewadi complex for counting day. This included staff for opening of strong room, carrying EVM case and counting of votes. Total number of counting tables for all four constituencies were around 400.

When asked about the delay in Pune results, the Collector said, “The results got delayed because we have followed the procedure very religiously. It depends on the observer and also there is certain procedure decided by the Election Commission, which we have to follow. As a returning officer for Pune constituency, I cannot intervene in the work of the observer or ask them to rush.”

“There were a few objections from counting age-nts at clerical level, which is neglible and election counting went without any problems,” added the Collector.
