PUNE: A 28-year-old woman from Uganda was allegedly kidnapped by two men on a bike and then gangraped at an isolated spot on road to DY Patil College in Lohegaon. The incident took place around 3 am today.
Based on complaint from the woman, who came to India on a tourist visa in August, an FIR has been registered with Pune city police, Vimantal police station, against the two unidentified persons.
According to police, the woman had gone for dinner alone at a hotel on Mundhwa road near Koregaon Park on Monday (December 23) around 8 pm. Around midnight, she was trying to book a cab for going to her flat in Kondhwa, when a man approached her on bike. She offered to drop her home. After she agreed, he called another friend. She sat between the two men on the bike. However, the accused took her to an isolated area on the road to DY Patil College in Lohegaon and took turns to rape her.
"They were going away leaving me alone in the pitch dark area, when I requested them to drop me on the main road. While we were going I saw some people on the road and shouted for help. The man driving the bike lost balance and we fell down. As people were approaching, the two accused fled on their bike. I sustained injuries on knees", the woman told cops. She has also given last four digits of the bike's registration number.
The detection branch officials of the police station have launched search for the accused persons. DCP (Zone 4) Pankaj Deshmukh, Senior Police Inspector Gajanan Pawar are supervising the investigation.
