Free saplings given by Empress Garden

PUNE: To celebrate World Earth Day, saplings were distributed by Empress Garden located near the Pune Race Course in Wanawadi.

Suresh Pingale, Secretary of the garden, said, “On the occasion of World Earth Day, we are distributing saplings to hospitals, social organisations working on environment-related work, schools, companies and other organisations for free.”

“Many people had come from Satara, Nashik, Kolhapur and from the city as well to take the saplings. Saplings of banyan, peepal or ficus religiosa, tamarind along with some non-indigenous saplings were also given to the people as per the demand.”
