FTII announces third edition of winter FA course

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) has announced the third edition of winter Film Appreciation (FA) Course from December 1 to 15. The last date to apply for the same is October 31.

Thematically titled ‘Film Appreciation through the Lens of Life’, the 14-day residential course to explore Indian cinema is being conducted in association with National Film Archive of India (NFAI).

FTII alumna Arunaraje Patil will be the Course Director. Patil (FTII, Film Editing, 1969) was a filmmaker, screenwriter, producer and film editor, who has won five national awards. She was also a renowned life coach and motivational speaker, who has led transformational programmes for more than 10,000 people.

“This course, both in its content as well as approach, is distinct from the annual summer Film Appreciation course held by FTII and NFAI. This time, we will get under the skin of cinema while unravelling its linkages with life,” said FTII Director Bhupendra Kainthola.

Explaining the course objective, Patil said, “Given that life and cinema were closely related, the integrated discussions on the narratives in films and the human design will in fact lead to a deeper understanding of both. It’s an experiential journey of self discovery as well as understanding of cinema.”

She added, “The course was designed to integrate experiential insights of the human design with an understanding of how films put together and are in fact, created a reflection of life from a particular point of view through characters, stories, subtext and overall visual and aural treatment. The discussions will also include gender-sensitive issues and the way women were perceived in society and portrayed in cinema.”

The course is open to all above 18 years of age. Course and admission details are available on the websites www.ftii.ac.in and www.nfai.gov.in.
