Pune, 2nd March 2025: In a major action against traffic violations, Pune Police have registered a case against officials of a private gas supply company and its contractor for digging a road without prior intimation to the traffic department.
The incident led to severe traffic congestion near Sant Dnyaneshwar Paduka Chowk in Shivajinagar.
According to police, the contractor began excavation work on February 27 on the stretch between Sant Dnyaneshwar Paduka Chowk and Modern College Road. The work was reportedly started without informing traffic authorities, despite the ongoing Class 10 and 12 board examinations.
The unexpected digging caused massive traffic jams in the area, affecting not only the main stretch but also disrupting movement on Fergusson College Road. Students and parents heading to examination centers, along with office-goers, were stranded for a considerable time due to the congestion.
When traffic police inquired into the matter, it was found that the gas company had failed to provide prior notice before commencing the excavation. Following this, a case was registered at Shivajinagar Police Station against the concerned officials and the contractor.
Meanwhile, police have also taken action against eight to ten motorists and roadside stall owners in the city for creating traffic obstructions. Officials stated that strict action will continue against anyone causing inconvenience to commuters or violating traffic norms.
