Govt asks all schools to observe Yoga Day

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: Ahead of International Yoga Day, School Education and Sports Department of Maharashtra government has asked all schools to observe the Yoga Day on June 21.

The officials informed that school teachers are required to furnish data of students that have participated in the event. It will help in mapping the progress of conducting such events, stated the officials. State Education Minister had recently directed the schools and colleges to follow Yoga Day on 21st of every month by practising Yoga for at least 30 minutes.

“An online system has been developed wherein the teachers can upload and update the data of participants as and when the event is organised. The purpose of Yoga Day will be fulfilled only if people participate in the exercise. Also, by not making it an event for a single day only, it should be regularly practised every month at schools as instructed by ministry,” said District Sports Officer Vijay Santan.

The Yoga Day will be observed at all schools under Pune district, PMC and PCMC jurisdiction, taluka sports organisation, Chhatrapati Sports Organisation, Mahalunge Balewadi and also all district sports offices.
