PUNE: The HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company Ltd has been authorised by the Government of Maharashtra to implement the Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS).

The scheme will be available for loanee and non-loanee farmers of orange, sweet lime, sapota, guava and pomegranate (mrig bahar) in the financial year 2017-18. The RWBCIS will be implemented for these crops in the cities or towns of Amravati, Nagpur, Wardha, Yavatmal, Pune, Beed, Jalgaon, Washim, Palghar, Buldhana and Hingoli districts by HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company.

Officials stated that all the products under RWBCIS are approved by the Department of Horticulture, Government of Maharashtra. “The RWBCIS offers insurance cover against losses of farmers due to aberrant weather conditions during the crop cycle, which is from the flowering stage to the harvesting stage of fruit. The claim amounts will be settled on the basis of data taken from reference weather stations mentioned in the scheme and managed by independent third party organisations,” the added.
