Heatwave situation persists in some parts of Maharashtra

Pune: Heatwave conditions continued on Tuesday in some parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and in isolated pockets 
over Vidarbha. 

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in few parts of Marathwada and central Maharashtra, the heatwave situation will continue till May 23. For Vidarbha, the heatwave conditions shall continue till May 25.

As a result of the heatwave, the highest temperature reported in the State was 46.6 degree Celsius in Chandrapur. 

In Pune, the day temperature was 41.1 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and the night temperature was reported to be at 23.4 degrees Celsius. The day temperature was 4.9 degrees more than the normal in the city. 

India Meteorological Department has predicted that the day temperature in the city shall continue to touch 41 degrees till May 24. After which, the day temperature shall continue to be 40 degrees till May 27 with clear skies.  

Monsoon advances
The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) continues to pass through Car-Nicobar. According to the India Meteorological Department, conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of South Bay of Bengal, North Andaman Sea and the Andaman Islands till May 23.

ENSO conditions
The Met Department on Tuesday also published El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) bulletin for May. The bulletin states that neutral ENSO conditions are likely to have higher probability from June-July-August to October-November-December season.

El Nino has been known to have a negative impact on the southwest monsoon rainfall.
