IIM Nagpur and YASHADA-Pune Join Hands to Strengthen Grassroots Leadership

MoU signed to boost executive education and capacity building for rural governance in Maharashtra

Pune 17 June 2025: In a significant step towards empowering local governance, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA), Pune. The MoU, formalised at IIM Nagpur’s campus, aims to advance executive education and capacity building for officers working in Zilla Parishads and the Panchayati Raj system across Maharashtra.

Welcoming the YASHADA delegation, Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director of IIM Nagpur, highlighted the importance of the partnership: “This MoU marks a pivotal moment in our commitment to nation-building through grassroots empowerment. We believe empowered local governance is key to India’s inclusive and sustainable development.”

Echoing this vision, Dr. Mallinath Kalshetty, IAS (Retd.), Director of the State Rural Development Institute, YASHADA, said: “By combining YASHADA’s grassroots experience with IIM Nagpur’s academic excellence, we are laying the foundation for more effective, accountable, and visionary local governance across Maharashtra.”

The signing ceremony was also attended by CAO Lt. Col. Makarand Alur (Retd.), Prof. Neelkanth Dhone, and Dr. Sapan Kumar Singh from IIM Nagpur.

This strategic collaboration is expected to foster sustainable, future-ready leadership, driving socio-economic growth in rural India.
