PUNE: The Pune rural police have launched an investigation into allegations by Vithalwadi village residents in Khed taluka that police personnel had brutally assaulted pregnant women, children and men, when they came to raid country-made liquor dens on Sunday (October 1).

The villagers alleged that it was only after police assaulted them that they attacked the police party wherein six police personnel and Home Guard members were injured.

The police claimed to have recovered chemical materials worth Rs 4,000, liquor worth Rs 2,000 and a giant squirrel.

According to police, a 24-member team including eight women constables led by Police Sub-Inspector Aditya Lonikar raided the liquor dens and some persons were detained.

As they were boarding vehicles, the mob comprising men, women and children attacked them with sharp weapons and stones. They allegedly tried to set the vehicles on fire after pouring liquor on them.

Pune rural police SP Mohammed Suvez Haque has ordered a probe into the whole incident which happened in Khed taluka.
