ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: The State government has declared Junnar taluka in Pune district a 'special tourism zone'. The move will boost employment opportunities for locals in the area.

A government resolution was passed on Wednesday by the State government, which has directed the Tourism Department to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the same. The taluka is famous for two Ashtavinayak temples, Girijatmak Temple near Lenyadri and Vighneshwar Temple in Ozar.

Junnar taluka is also famous for housing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's birth place, Shivneri fort and seven other historical forts and over 350 caves. The taluka will also be designed as a model taluka. Apart from this, the taluka has several natural ghats like Naneghat, Daryaghat and Aneghat. The DPR would contain details of resorts and museums which will come up in the area.
