Kannada Sangha organises dance ballet on life of a saint

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: Kannada Sangha, Pune, which runs Kaveri Group Of Educational Institutes, recently arranged a grand dance ballet ‘Dasarendare Puranadardsarayya’  which means ‘saint of all saints- Purandardasa’, depicting the life journey of money lender transforming into a great saint Purandaradasa, who has written thousands of devotional songs in Kannada.

He is also a devotee of Lord Vitthal of Pandharpur and pledged each song to him.

The event was held in Shakuntala Auditorium as a concluding programme of birth centenary of Late Dr Kalamadi Shamarao, a founder member of Kannada Sangha.

On February 17, selected vocal devotional songs of Purandaradasa were sung by popular Carnatic singer Nandini Rao Gujar. The dance was performed by Smita Mahajan, a disciple of Sucheta Chapekar, with her group. The event was multi-lingual and appreciated by the audience.
