KCB will seal gyms if they do not renew lease agreements

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: The five gymnasiums which are operating within Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) limits have been sent one month’s notice by the board as they are either operating without a valid lease agreement or the owner has failed to produce valid documents to operate the facility.

KCB has reminded the gym operators to submit documents and renew their contracts. Abhay Sawant, Vice President of KCB said, “These gyms were formed 15 to 20 years back from the funds of MLA and corporators under public interest. They were run by representatives from each ward. As per government rules, they have to renew the agreement with the Board every five years. But since they have failed to do so, the Cantonment has taken the step to either shut them or give them one month notice period to submit documents to renew the lease agreement.”

Amol Jagtap, the Chief Executive Officer of KCB, said, “This issue was being discussed from last two years. And it has to be taken up seriously this time, as the gyms have not renewed the lease agreement. If these gyms do not produce the legal documents and do not renew it in a month then the gyms will be sealed.”
