Kidnapper awarded life imprisonment

Pune: A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000 for demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from the family of a boy kidnapped by him and his absconding accomplice.

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Dilip Murumkar also ordered a separate charge sheet against the absconding accused. The incident took place in July 2008, in which a 12-year-old boy was kidnapped by the two accused, identified as Suhas Jagtap (32) and prime accused Sanjay Aba Sawant, who escaped during the hearing.

Sawant was a regular visitor at the house of the complainant. Sawant kidnapped the boy on the pretext of dropping him to school in his car. After the family reported the incident to the police, the boy was rescued and the accused were arrested.
