Light rainfall likely in city until Sept 8, predicts IMD

PUNE: Under the influence of a low-pressure area which lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts along with the associated cyclonic circulation, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is likely over Vidarbha and adjoining areas during the next two days.

As per the predictions made by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall has been predicted at isolated places in central Maharashtra and Vidarbha on September 4 and September 5. Heavy rainfall will continue in Konkan and Goa region till September 7.

EXCESS RAINFALL
Between June 1 to September 3, some parts of Maharashtra reported 21 pc excess rainfall. Konkan and Goa region has 36 per cent excess rainfall whereas, central Maharashtra has 53 pc excess rainfall. Marathwada has reported 18 pc rainfall deficiency followed by 3 pc deficiency in Vidarbha.

The southwest Monsoon has been vigorous over coastal Karnataka and active over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, east Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra and Kutch, Konkan and Goa, Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. It has been subdued over Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

ACROSS INDIA
IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Gujarat region till September 7.

Heavy rainfall at isolated places over Uttarakhand, east Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Konkan and Goa, coastal Karnataka, Saurashtra and Kutch and Kerala has been forecast during the same time.

Between June 1 to September 3, there was zero rainfall deficiency across the country. The southern peninsula has reported nine per cent excess rainfall followed by central India at 13 per cent excess rainfall.  The northwest region has reported five per cent rainfall deficiency and east and northeast India has received 19 per cent rainfall deficiency.
