PUNE: Officials of the Pune police on Wednesday held a meeting with representatives of political parties for maintaining law and order during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The officials explained the the Model Code of Conduct to the representatives. The meeting was attended by top police officials and members of political parties. 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Mitesh Ghatte said issues like locations for political rallies, movement of VIP and political persons, tackling rumours, handling social media and other issues were discussed with the political representatives. “They were also apprised of police flying squads,” added Ghatte. Police Commissioner K Venkatesham said, “It was a familiarisation meeting between police and representatives of political parties. We informed them about the respective nodal officers. Different issues were discussed including providing security at rallies and polling stations.” 

The police explained to the political representatives about the cVIgil mobile application and how they can report cases of malpractices, violation of Model Code of Conduct, cash liquor, drugs distribution and other such incidents.

The representatives included Chhaya Jadhav from Congress, Ajit Abhyankar, Yogesh Pande, Sidhakar Phule, Chandrakant Mokate and others. The police said that in no condition the voters should be influenced either through gifts or threats. To check the flow of cash, liquor and other material, police teams will be deployed at various check posts in the city. “People should not violate the Model Code of Conduct and cooperate with the police,” added Ghatte.
