PIMPRI: The stage is set for conducting voting for Maval and Shirur Lok Sabha constituencies on Monday.

Election authorities have made the elaborate arrangements for conducting the polling at various polling centres in the two parliamentary seats.

In Maval constituency, NCP-Congress front’s candidate Parth Pawar is challenging Shiv Sena’s sitting MP Shrirang Barne. While in Shirur seat, the battle is between NCP-Congress candidate Dr Amol Kolhe and Shiv Sena’s three-term MP Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil.

The staff appointed for the election duty in Maval and Shirur Lok Sabha constituencies were handed over the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and other materials on Sunday. The election staff has been provided with the necessary training for conducting the voting. Voting will be conducted from 7 am to 6 pm and it is mandatory for the eligible voters to produce their identity proofs.

The voting percentage in each polling centre would be intimated to the election authorities after every two hours.

This is for the first time that voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines are also installed at the polling centres to enable the voters to verify their voting to a particular candidate. There are altogether 22,27,733 voters in Maval constituency. Of these, highest number of voters – 5,14,902 - are in Panvel assembly segment while there are 4,76,780 voters in Chinchwad segment. Voters in other segments are Pimpri 3,41,701; Maval 3,32,215; Uran 2,86,658 and Karjat 2,75,477.
