Pune: Within 12 hours after a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped and strangled to death inside her house in Dhayari on Thursday, the Pune city police arrested her uncle for the heinous crime. An FIR was registered by her father on Friday after post-mortem report revealed her sexual abuse and murder. 

The 30-year-old accused who hails from Solapur district works at a shop. The CCTV footage shows that he had entered the building at 3.30 pm. There were also scratch marks on his neck. A team comprising Sinhgad Road police station and Crime Branch questioned the accused who later reportedly confessed to the crime after confronted with the evidence. A special court on Saturday remanded him to police custody till December 14. He has been charged for murder and sexual abuse under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. 

According to police, victim’s parents are labourers. After leaving home in the morning, they return by late evening. Her 15-year-old brother who studies in Class VIII returns home by 5 pm. The victim studies in Class XI and returns home by afternoon. On Thursday, her brother had found her unconscious and alerted neighbours when she did not wake up. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival around 7 pm. There were injury marks on her hand, legs and neck.
 
On Friday, the post-mortem report revealed that she was raped and then strangled to death.
