Man held for attempting to extort money from petrol pump cashier

Pune: A man allegedly involved in trying to extort money from a petrol pump cashier was arrested by the Khadki police, after he allegedly threatened to kill the complainant if he fails to pay him the extortion money.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning at Anand service station petrol pump on Bhau Patil Road in Bopodi. A case under section 387 (Putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion), 352 (Punishment for assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation) is lodged against the accused, Manoj Kashinath Shinde (30), a resident of Bhamti Chawl, Ganesh Nagar, Bopodi.

According to Khadki police, the complainant was being harassed by the accused for past two months. The police said the accused demanded Rs 200 as 'Hafta' on a daily basis. Following the incident, the complainant lodged a case against Shinde. Assistant Police Inspector S Shinde is investigating the case.
