Members of Yukrand discuss Gujarat polls

Sakal Times

Pune: Pune-based youth social services organisation, Yuvak Kranti Dal (Yukrand) shared its little contributory story in Jignesh Mewani’s success in Gujarat elections at a public meeting at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday.

Mewani, who was elected from Vadgam constituency in Gujarat legislative assembly, won by 19,696 votes. Seven members of Yukrand had participated in the rally to support Mewani.

Sharing their experiences during the rally, Sachin Pandule said, “Everyone’s agenda during the election was related to caste, while only Mewani had raised issues of development. This caught the attention of many, who felt that change and development are required. Moreover, he is educated, a lawyer, therefore, people felt that improvement will happen. His agendas ensured his success and its results will be reflected by 2019.”

Rama Saptarshi, a Gandhian and member of Yukrand said, “Interestingly, women in Gujarat were observed to have taken a backseat. We noticed not many were enthusiastic about voting, only one woman came forward and asked us about Mewani’s profile. However, we tried to speak to most of the women and men there.”

“There is no Gujarat model as such, that the BJP is trying to portray. Implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and demonetisation has only affected the poor. BJP is a party for corporate people and not the poor. Nevertheless, due to the participation of the youth in elections, the nature of politics will slowly change and this Gujarat election will prove to be a turning point in 2019,” said Kumar Saptarishi was present as the chief guest at the event.
