MIM protests over non-inclusion of Owaisi’s picture in PMC book

Sakal Times

Pune: Enraged after finding that their party president Asaduddin Owaisi’s photograph was not carried in the annual budget book, party workers associated with the city unit of All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) conducted an agitation outside Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters on Monday.

Each year, the Standing Committee publishes photographs of all prominent political party leaders in the budget book. AIMIM workers were upset that Owaisi’s photograph was not carried in the budget book.

Recently, Standing Committee Chairman Murli Mohol presented a budget of Rs 5,870 crore. A special General Body meeting was conducted for the approval of the budget.

Ashwini Landge is the only elected corporator from AIMIM in PMC. She represents YerAwada Ward. Landge said, “Three months ago, I gave a letter to Municipal Commissioner Kunal Kumar and Mayor Mukta Tilak to include Owaisi’s photograph in the budget book. However, no one took serious note of my letter. So, we had no option but to protest against this.”

In the civic election, the party fielded 25 candidates in the city. The party was confident about gaining more seats in Muslim-populated areas of Kondhwa and adjoining areas. However, it was able to open its account from Yerwada. Landge won the election, even though there was a four-panel system. There are three Shiv Sena corporators in the ward represented by Landge.
