PUNE: On the background of upcoming  State Assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed MLA Madhuri Misal as the new city president in place of Yogesh Gogawale. For the first time, the BJP has given the responsibility of the city president’s post to a woman.

State BJP President Chandrakant Patil made the announcement in Mumbai. There is speculation that Gogawale is interested in contesting Assembly polls from Parvati constituency, which Misal is now representing.

Misal said, “I am indeed feeling very happy and honoured on being chosen as BJP Pune City President. I am thankful to the seniors in the party who have recognized my consistent hard work for the party and for society at large. Special thanks to them for  considering me capable of handing dual responsibility of being people’s representative and a party worker.
