Pune: The sudden transfer of PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Tukaram Mundhe evoked mixed reactions. While activists felt the move was politically motivated, the workers’ union was happy.
Meanwhile, Naina Gunday, IAS officer will hold charge of PMPML, according to sources.
When contacted, Sanjay Shitole, Secretary of PMP Pravasi Manch said the decision was politically motivated. “It feels sad that Mundhe has been removed. Before him, the PMPML was without a chairman for 10 months. Before that, Abhishek Krishna was PMPML CMD for around 9 months. Under Mundhe, the compliant redressal and response system improved drastically,” Shitole told.
“Mundhe ensured maximum buses ply on roads. Buses’ breakdown was reduced to 70 per day,” said Shitole.
However, the workers unions are happy and said the bad days are over. Rajendra Kharade, President, workers’ union (INTUC) said, “We are very happy, bad days have gone for drivers and conductors. He sacked many drivers and conductors without any reason and forced them to work as per his rules.”
Mundhe took action against employees who are indisciplined and not punctual. He stopped illegal promotions including facilitation of routes, introduced new routes, sped up BRT service, stopped overtime, created new appointment plan and helped increase number of passengers which generated income of Rs 18 crore.
