Pune, 6th June 2026: The Southwest Monsoon made further progress on Saturday, entering South Konkan after covering the remaining parts of Goa. The monsoon has now spread across most areas of Sindhudurg district and parts of Ratnagiri and Kolhapur in Maharashtra.
Beyond Maharashtra, the monsoon also advanced into additional parts of Karnataka, most of Tamil Nadu, and some regions of Andhra Pradesh, Mizoram and Manipur.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the northern limit of the monsoon currently passes through Devgad, Koppal, Anantapur, Chennai and Aizawl.
Meteorologists have indicated that weather conditions are favourable for further monsoon advancement during the next two to three days. By around June 10, the monsoon is expected to cover large parts of the Konkan region and the Western Ghats.
Several areas of Marathwada are also likely to receive heavy rainfall from June 7 onwards. The favourable weather pattern is being supported by a trough of low pressure extending from Marathwada across Konkan and Goa into the Arabian Sea.
This system is helping accelerate the monsoon's progress while increasing rainfall activity across western Maharashtra and the Konkan region.
With the monsoon steadily advancing, rainfall activity is expected to intensify across more parts of Maharashtra in the coming days, bringing much-needed relief from the prevailing summer heat.
