Monsson update: Pune to receive heavy rains over next two days

Pune: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the Pune district and adjacent parts will receive heavy rainfall on July 15 and 16 with intense rainfall over ghat areas. Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad could receive moderate rainfall till July 20, the weather department added. The rainfall reported in the city this season is 222.3 mm, somewhat above normal for during this time of the year.

Districts namely Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Pune, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Palghar, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur and Satara are warned with the yellow alert for the next three days.

Since Tuesday afternoon, several coastal districts, including Mumbai, have reported heavy rainfall. Mumbai (Santacruz) recorded 77 mm till rainfall till 5.30 pm on Tuesday while Ratnagiri witnessed 54 mm. Heavy rainfall continued through Monday and the 24-hour rainfall (ending on Tuesday) reported over Malvan was 112 mm followed by Aurangabad 55 mm and Mahabaleshwar 42 mm.

In the early week of July, most parts of Konkan followed by Mumbai, witnessed ‘very heavy’ rainfall for the first time this season. However, central Maharashtra, counting Pune, is yet to get its share of rainfall for this month. As of July 12, rainfall witnessed overall sub-divisions continues to remain either in the normal or excess category.
