Mundhe's moves could be history soon

Pune: After Tukaram Mundhe's transfer from Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), all decisions taken by him are being withdrawn slowly. Now, contractors have demanded that the fine that was imposed on them for lethargic work by Mundhe be reconsidered.

Newly-appointed CMD Nayana Gunde has formed a committee under her chairmanship to take a decision in this regard. It consists of four other members from PMPML, Chief Inspector Pankaj Giri, Transport Manager Dattatray Mane, Traffic Manager Vilas Bandal and Technology and Information Officer Shirish Kalekar, besides three representatives of contractors.

Mundhe had fined five contractors Rs 88 crore for not following rules, such as stopping a bus on bus stops for eight seconds to pick up commuters. There are 653 buses owned by contractors in PMPML's fleet.

Gunde said, "Contractors are saying that the penalty imposed on them is very high. They are also part of the PMPML. We will take action as per rules and after listing their demand. According to contractors, the penalty amount is very high. They are unable to even maintain and repair buses."
