Pune, 15 November 2025: Following the recent tragic accident at Pune’s Navale Bridge, top officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Police and PMRDA held a coordination meeting on Friday. The session focused on immediate and long-term measures needed to improve safety on this high-risk stretch of the Pune–Bengaluru highway.
Earlier in the morning, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram inspected the Navale Bridge surroundings. He described the situation as extremely unsafe and stressed the need for urgent corrective steps. He stated plainly that PMC would take the lead and complete key improvements within six months to prevent further accidents.
As part of the agreed plan, rumblers and cat-eye reflectors will be installed along the highway, particularly between Katraj Tunnel and Navale Bridge. LED warning boards will be added, and heavy vehicles will be required to use the outer lane to prevent congestion and reduce speed-related risk. Authorities will also enforce no-parking rules strictly and take action against over-speeding vehicles.
Traffic police will ensure that vehicles maintain a 40 kmph speed limit on this stretch. Unauthorised roadside activities, illegal transport operations and passenger vehicles stopping on the highway will face stricter penalties.
In addition to safety measures, several service roads will be upgraded over the coming months. These include stretches from Sus Ghat to Radha Hotel, Dhumkar Khind to the Mutha River, Vadgaon Bridge to Navale Bridge, and Navale Bridge to Bhimkar Bridge. The aim is to streamline traffic flow and reduce dependence on the main highway.
Authorities emphasised that coordinated execution between all departments is essential to reduce accidents and bring lasting improvement to one of Pune’s busiest and most accident-prone road sections.
