PIMPRI: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has convened a meeting of its office-bearers, sitting and former municipal corporators here on Thursday, to discuss preparations for the forthcoming State Assembly polls.

Former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will address the meeting which is being held for the first time after the party’s recent defeat in the Maval Lok Sabha seat. The meeting will be held at Nilu Phule auditorium at Pimple Gurav. Significantly, Pimple Gurav is now the fortress of the city unit of the BJP led by MLA Laxman Jagtap.

Ajit Pawar’s son Parth was defeated in Maval Parliamentary seat with Shiv Sena’s Shrirang Barne winning by a margin of 96,000 votes in Chinchwad assembly segment, 41,000 votes in Pimpri assembly segment and 40,000 votes in Bhosari assembly segment.

The three Assembly seats are represented by the BJP-Sena. Many local leaders have expressed their wish to contest the three Assembly seats with NCP nomination.
