Pune: Citing the successful run on the first day of new water supply timetable, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) claimed that it had received only 20 water-related complaints on Monday. However, it has started 18001030222 helpline on Monday to register water-related problems. Meanwhile, the civic body sent water tankers in some parts of the city to deal with water scarcity.
Last week, the civic body announced that citizens will get water once a day for five hours from Monday (October 29). However, PMC Water Supply Department implemented the scheme from Saturday (October 27) on trial basis.
The administration received water-related complaints from different parts of the city. City MP Anil Shirole, on Saturday, threatened the civic administration of sitting on a hunger strike. However, Mayor Mukta Tilak called a meeting on Sunday to resolve problems at the mayor’s bungalow where people took written assurances from her, Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao and Shirole to solve the water-related problems in Shivajinagar.
On Monday, speaking to Sakal Times, Pravin Gedam, Superintending Engineer, Pune Water Supply Department said, “We received around 20 complaints from Kothrud, Dahanukar Colony, Bibvewadi, Parvati and Taljai areas. The complaints were regarding water supply with low pressure. But we solved these problems.”
Meanwhile, the civic body sent water tankers to PMC Colony in Ganj Peth area as residents were complaining of inadequate water supply.
Pune Municipal Corporation, on a daily basis, supplies around 400 water tankers to different parts of the city. However, now, it has increased the tankers to 500 every day.
