PIMPRI: Normalcy was restored in most areas of Pimpri Chinchwad which were affected by the rising levels of rivers and incessant rains. The city experienced respite from rainfall for most period of the day on Wednesday.

There was an alarming rise in the water levels of Pavana, Mula and Indrayani rivers on Sunday and Monday, forcing a number of families in the low lying areas to shift to temporary shelters.

Bhau Patil Road near Harris Bridge in Dapodi which was closed for movement due to the flooded Mula river was opened for traffic on Wednesday after the water started receding.

The residential areas and housing societies in Old and New Sangvi, Kasarwadi and Pimpri which were flooded for the last two days were cleaned by the local residents on Wednesday. At some residential places, stagnant water was also pumped out.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) had on Sunday shifted the flood-affected families to different schools in various parts of the city. These schools will reopen only after the flood-hit people return to their houses, municipal corporation sources said.

Meanwhile, the people in some of the flood-affected areas are still facing problems even after the river water has receded. Power supply to many of these areas was not restored even on Wednesday. The garbage collected in flooded areas is also posing threat to the health of people. At many places, the civic body has launched cleaning operations.
