PCB demands its share of GST; projs put on hold

Pune: There was commotion in the General Body Meeting of the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) after Chief Executive Officer (CEO) DN Yadav raised the issue of PCB not receiving its share of Goods and Service Tax (GST) from the State government. He said that it was impossible for PCB to carry out the maintenance and development work as the board did not have any revenue.
  
During the meeting held on Tuesday, Major General Naveen Kumar took over the charge of the President of PCB. It was discussed that, now that the Cantonment does not have funds to pay for the maintenance and development work, big and new projects will be kept on hold for the moment.

Yadav also mentioned that the board will be able to pay the salaries of the employees working in the Cantonment only till March 2019. Therefore, all major works in Cantonment area should be stopped until and unless the board does not its receive GST share from the government.

“We have sent property tax notices to approximately 5,500 property owners in December 2018, in which a popular mall situated on MG Road is also included. If the owner of this mall does not pay the property tax, then we will issue a warrant against the owner,” he added.

Kumar said, “The revenue status of the PCB is very bad and if the government fails to give the GST share by February 2019, then we will file a writ petition in High Court against the government for not giving us our share”.

Kumar also said that a letter should be submitted to Principal Director and Directorate General Defence Estate mentioning the insights of GST share and also have a meeting with the Members of Parliament and other officials on the same issue.

Yadav also said that the board will seek opinion of the Southern Command whether to involve the Centre on the same issue.
