Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will soon approach the Groundwater Survey Development Agency (GSDA) to make a groundwater table assessment report of Pimpri-Chinchwad areas and work on increase in the groundwater table. This is intended to curb water cuts which has been enforced in Pimpri-Chinchwad areas on a weekly basis from March 2019.

Pravin Ladkat, Executive Engineer, PCMC Water Supply Department told Sakal Times, “Since there is no survey or assessment done on the groundwater table of Pimpri Chinchwad area and the water requirement is putting a strain on Pavana dam, we thought of approaching the GSDA and include the same in the yearly budget.”

Ladkat said, “We will speak with the GSDA in April and map the positions of borewells, recharge areas and aquifers. Then we will put the proposal before the PCMC Commissioner and request them to include it in the yearly budget. By taking this step, Pimpri Chinchwad will have an additional source of water and in situations like water cuts, the residents will not have to face inadequacy of water.”
