Pimpri: Pimpri-Chinchwad, which lost its place among the top 10 cities in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, is now attempting to regain this honour in the fourth year of the nationwide campaign.

Pimpri-Chinchwad had bagged ninth place among the top 10 cities in the cleanliness campaign in 2016, the first year of the nationwide campaign. During the second year, the city slipped to 72nd rank in the country while in the third year, it had to be content with 42nd rank.

PCMC is now facing a challenge to regain its rank among the top 10 cities in 2018-19. The Union government has now announced the schedule for the fourth year of the cleanliness drive.

The fourth Swachh Bharat Abhiyan will be launched from October 2 this year. The survey for the Swachh Bharat campaign will include various factors including 100 per cent separation of garbage at garbage generation spots, 100 per cent open defecation-free, maintenance and cleanliness of public toilets and increased public participation in the drive.

In an attempt to be among the top 10 cities, the PCMC has been trying to process 100 per cent garbage generated in the city. The tender process for this drive will be issued soon. A workshop for the civic officials and other employees was also conducted in this connection recently.
