Peaceful immersion in Pimpri city

PIMPRI: The immersion of idols of Lord Ganesh took place peacefully in different parts of Pimpri Chinchwad on Thursday night.

People had thronged to the various ghats in the city on Thursday to immerse Ganesh idols with their families. The processions of immersion of various Ganesh mandals began in the evening. 

As a part of the eco-friendly Ganesh festival drive, many organisations and institutions participated in donation of Ganesh idols and collection of floral offerings (Nirmalya) on the last day of the festival. Sanskar Pratishthan from Chinchwad, DY Patil Pharmacy College, Moraya Institute of Para-Medical Science and Lions Club of Pune International were among these organisations.

Altogether, 52,677 idols were collected while 33 tonnes of nirmalya was collected in the city during the day. Volunteers of Aniruddha Academy of Disaster Management and Police Friends Welfare Association participated in regulating the immersion processions.

Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate had taken preventive measures against 252 persons in the city to prevent any untoward incidents during the festive period. The police authorities had maintained a vigil at various strategic locations to keep a watch on anti-social elements.

Plain-clothed police personnel were also posted at the immersions ghats on Thursday.
