Peaceful immersion processions in the city: Cops

PUNE: Barring a few incidents of thefts and ruckus, no major untoward incident was reported during the Ganesh idol immersion process in the city on Thursday. 

According to the city police, the immersion process was peaceful. Police Inspector Gajanan Pawar of Crime Branch Unit II said, “On Thursday, 19 persons who were involved in stealing mobile phones from people present at the immersion procession, were arrested by the police officials. 

“We seized 82 stolen mobile phones from these accused. The accused are from Malegaon and Nanded area,” added Pawar.  In another incident, a 65-year-old woman from Kothrud, who was watching the immersion process in Kothrud, was attacked with a sickle by a 22-year-old youth. A case of attempt to murder was lodged against the accused Swapnil Danve.
