Pune: As petrol prices have touched Rs 80-mark, citizens are reacting sharply to the ever increasing rise in fuel prices. 

All India Petrol Dealers Association (AIPDA) spokesperson Ali Daruwalla said, “The basic price of petrol is Rs 29. Central Excise of 22.8 per cent is levied on it. Over and above that, the State government charges 26 per cent VAT. Moreover, consumers pay Rs 9 additional cess while Rs 3 is levied by the State government as drought cess.”

He said, “When the Supreme Court had banned liquor shops along highways, the State government again taxed petrol with Rs 3. Similarly, consumers in the state are paying Re 1 each as education cess, Swachh Bharat cess and Krishi Kalyan cess. If these numbers are added together, we are paying Rs 50 more on the current rates on crude oil. After the Gujarat Assembly elections, petroleum companies gradually increased prices of petrol from Rs 75 to Rs 80 per litre till date.”
