Pimpri police arrest man involved in thefts

Pune: A history-sheeter involved in several thefts was arrested by Pimpri police on Saturday. The police recovered valuables amounting to Rs 5 lakh from him. 

The accused was identified as Ajay Bhalerao (20), a resident of Laltopi Nagar in Pimpri. Bhalerao has been involved in crimes related to burglary and two-wheeler thefts. The police have recovered ornaments, cash and three two-wheelers amounting to Rs 5 lakh from him. 

Bhalerao, who was arrested on a tip-off provided by an informer, has committed burglaries and thefts in Pimpri and Bhosari. He was arrested on Saturday from a spot near Nana-Nani Park at Ajmera Colony. 

According to the police, he tried to escape after spotting the cops, however, he was chased and arrested. He was produced in the city court and has been remanded in police custody till December 26.
