Plastic milk pouch ban stalled for now

Pune: The decision of milk pouch manufacturers to stop manufacturing pouches from December 15 has been stalled for now after Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam held a meeting with representatives of milk dairies in the state on Tuesday. 

In the meeting they have decided to chalk out an action plan after February 15 to recycle and reuse milk pouches.

Prakash Kutwal, Secretary of the Milk Producers and Processors Welfare Association, told Sakal Times, that, the environment minister has been very cooperative and he said that after two months, i.e. after February 15, the dairy union and the environment minister will hold a meeting and will chalk out a action plan on how to recycle and reuse milk pouches.

Kutwal said, “Along with the environment minister, Arjun Panditrao Khotkar, Minister for State, Dairy Development; Pravin Pote, Minister Of State, Environment; Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Leader of Opposition and Ajit Pawar, Senior NCP leader were also present besides 40 members of milk union of Maharashtra.”

“The two manufacturing factories of milk pouches which had been closed will be given orders to resume the business from Wednesday. One factory is in Pune i.e. Rathi Pvt Ltd and one at Ahmednagar is Vardhaman Polythene Pvt Ltd,” Kutwal added. 

He also added that henceforth, milk supplies will  not be affected.
