Pune: The civic body of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has finally conducted a plastic collection drive in the city on May 6 from 6 am to 11 am at the PMC ward offices and at Aarogya Kothis. 

However, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) already had a headstart on the PMC, conducting its drive from April 19 to 21, while PMC was busy making awareness about its drive. A total of 7,863 kg of plastic was collected from the drive conducted by PMC.

The drive was inaugurated by Mukta Tilak, Mayor of the city, Anil Shirole, Member of Parliament (MP), and Saurabh Rao, PMC Commissioner, near Tilak statue at Mahatma Phule Mandai in Shaniwar Peth. A street play was also performed by Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation along with Janwani. 

There were 200 collection centres in 15 wards of PMC and a total of 5,880 kilos of plastic, 1,758 kilos of thermocol and 225 kilos of e-waste was collected during the drive. Suresh Jagtap, head of Solid Waste Management Department of PMC, said, “Till now, we were making awareness about plastic, and on Sunday, we conducted plastic collection drive so that we could get all the stocked plastic from the households of the city. A total of 7,863 kg of plastic was collected in the drive.”

When Jagtap was questioned why this drive has been conducted after Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has conducted its drive and why this drive has been conducted only for a day, he did not reply and kept talking about how the drive was successful after making huge awareness 
about plastic.
