PMC building extension work almost complete

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) building extension work is going on a war footing to complete it before its inauguration by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday.

The work has cost Rs 50 crore and the extension is spread over 14,000 square metres with ample parking facility. Pune Mayor Mukta Tilak said, “The dome is of 72 sq ft radius and is the key attraction of the building. The auditorium can accommodate 224 elected members. The seating capacity of the spectators’ gallery is 180 people. Arrangements for seating 50 officers and 50 journalists has been made.”

Shrinath Bhimale, BJP Leader of House in PMC, said, “The building will have a new General Body meeting hall, Standing Committee hall and offices of mayor, deputy mayor and party leaders and municipal secretary. The construction has been done in around three years’ time.”

According to PMC officials, features have been added in the building to make it more citizen-friendly. Facilities such as a single window system, citizen facilitation centre, post office, bank ATMs and PMPML bus pass counter are incorporated  in the building. The extension will also resolve the problem of parking vehicles. Open spaces have been kept in the building along with adequate waiting lounges at every floor. The new building is connected with the existing old building of the PMC, which was built in in 1960.
