The new ward boundaries have been determined based on the 2011 census, which records Pune's population at 3.48 million. Of this population, 468,000 belong to Scheduled Castes and 40,000 to Scheduled Tribes. Based on these figures, 165 corporators will be elected from 41 wards, including 40 wards with four members each and one ward with five members.

More than 5,900 objections were submitted regarding the draft ward plan, primarily requesting modifications to ward names and the boundaries of reserved seats for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Despite this, only about 800 people participated in the hearing at Bal Gandharva Rangmandir.

Following a review of these objections, the report was sent to the state government, which subsequently passed it on to the Election Commission for approval.

The matter has sparked a political discussion. Numerous opposition figures and senior officials have alleged that the proposed framework was designed to favor the BJP. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar openly voiced his dissatisfaction, underscoring the increasing strains within the governing Mahayuti alliance.

Significant areas like Hadapsar, Khadakwasla, and Vadgaonsheri, known as strongholds of the NCP, are under scrutiny for potential alterations in response to Pawar's criticisms.

“The State Election Commission has approved the final ward structure of Pune Municipal Corporation. The official notification will be published by Monday,” said Prasad Katkar, Deputy Commissioner of the Election Branch.
