Pune, 12 January 2026: City, known across India as a centre of education, is facing serious problem this election season. Students say their studies are being disrupted by loud political campaigning outside libraries, hostels and colleges.

Pune attracts thousands of aspirants preparing for exams like UPSC, MPSC and banking. Areas such as Sadashiv Peth and Navi Peth have a high number of study centres. With exams approaching, many students spend long hours in silence.

But campaign vehicles with loudspeakers and music are now passing through these streets, often stopping near study halls and campuses.

Students say the constant noise breaks their focus and causes stress, headaches and irritation. Silent zones like educational institutions, hospitals and libraries are supposed to be protected by law, but campaigners are openly violating these rules.

A student, speaking anonymously, said they come to study centres to find peace, but sudden loud announcements make it impossible to concentrate. Another student said families make big sacrifices to support their education, and even a few lost hours of study can affect their future.

They added that elections are important in a democracy, but this should not come at the cost of students’ careers. The students have appealed to the Election Commission, Pune Municipal Corporation and the police to take immediate action, limit the use of loudspeakers and penalise campaign vehicles that break noise rules.
