PMC to light up 7 bridges in city

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to illuminate seven bridges, including flyovers with a new dynamic architecture light system. The PMC has allocated Rs 5.66 crore for the purpose. On Tuesday, the Standing Committee approved this proposal of PMC Electrical Department to illuminate bridges and flyovers.

Speaking to Sakal Times, Electrical Department Chief Superintendent Shriniwas Kandul said, “In the first phase, we will illuminate river bridges - Sangam, Dengale, Shivaji, Kakasaheb Gadgil (Z-bridge), Warje Pul, Kharadi-Mundhwa and Paud Phata flyovers. We will fit poles on flyovers and place decorative poles on old bridges to give a heritage look to them.”

The civic body spent crores of rupees on the beautification of Nava Pul (near PMC main building) in 2012. It installed decorative poles, railings and tiles along its footpaths. However, after a few months, a pole and the railings were stolen.

DYNAMIC ARCHITECTURE SYSTEM
Architectural lighting design is a field within architecture, interior design and electrical engineering that is concerned with the design of lighting systems, including natural light, electrical light, or both, to serve human needs.

The objective of lighting design is the human response, to see clearly and without discomfort. The objective of architectural lighting design is to further the design of architecture or the experience of buildings and other physical structures.

Architectural lighting design focuses on three fundamental aspects of the illumination of buildings or spaces. The first is the aesthetic appeal of a building, an aspect particularly important in the illumination of retail environments. Secondly, the ergonomic aspect: the measure of how much of a function the lighting plays. Thirdly is energy efficiency.
