PMC planning to set up musical islands for emerging talent

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: To help emerging musicians, the civic administration is considering setting up ‘Musical Islands’ at 25 public parks in the city.

The open platform will allow emerging artists to perform their music and showcase instrumental talent for two hours daily in the morning and evening.

The idea was proposed by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad. As per this concept, citizens who come for walks at public parks will get a chance to listen to music.

Gaikwad said, “Considering the importance of Pune as the cultural capital of the State, we are planning to create an open platform for artists to perform at public parks in the city. Many emerging musicians are learning classical and western music. Very few of them get proper platform to showcase their skills, either they do in schools or college functions.”

Sanjay Nahar, Founder of NGO Sarhad, has expressed his organisation’s desire to execute this project and has conveyed it to PMC through a letter. “There are many such public platforms for artistes in foreign countries but giving a platform to emerging artistes will not only entertain but they will get a chance to showcase their talent and skills.”
