PUNE: Following the foot-over-bridge (FOB) collapse at CSMT station in Mumbai, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to conduct a structural audit of all FOBs in the city. Though the FOBs are not very old, the civic body wants to conduct the audit as a precautionary measure. 

Sandeep Patil, the Executive Engineer of the Traffic Planning Department, said, “There are nine FoBs in the city. After the Mumbai tragedy, we have decided to conduct their audit. A few years ago, we had conducted the structural audit of old bridges. We have completed repair works as mentioned in that audit. Right now, we don’t have funds to start an immediate audit work. We will make financial provisions in the coming days and then we will start the work.”

He said, “These FOBs were constructed around five years ago. However, we don’t want to take a risk when it comes to the safety of pedestrians. So, we have decided to carry out the structural audit.”

These FOBs are in Vishrantwadi, Deccan College, Khadki area, Bharati Vidyapeeth area in Katraj, Sarasbaug, Konkan Express Hotel, Dahanukar Colony and SNDT College. 

Konkan Express, Dahanukar College, Vishrantwadi FOBs have the facility of a lift to save time, as well as energy. The elderly complain that they have a problem climbing the FOBs for crossing the road. Therefore, PMC has introduced the option of lift in some FOBs.
