PMC releases list of 136 spots for election rallies in the city

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: A list of venues has been prepared by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) where rallies can be held for election campaigns.

The PMC ground in Kharadi near Eon IT Park has the largest space in Pune with an area of two acres, while Balewadi has the smallest area of 250 sq metres.

The list has 136 public spaces like public grounds, PMC land, playing grounds and some open schools grounds. To avoid any traffic-related problem within the city, only one place has been made available in Sadashiv Peth, while maximum spaces have been given in Balewadi.

Many parties do not get access to spaces within the city for public meetings or rallies and are denied permissions because it creates traffic congestion. As many star campaigners are expected to visit the city, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the PMC will allot larger areas in the future if the need arises.
