PMC to shift Ganesh idol stalls from Dengle Bridge

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: The Pune metro construction work will affect the Ganesh festival celebrations in the city this year.

The Ganesh idol stalls are going to be shifted from their regular place near Dengle Bridge to the riverbed road near Vartak Garden in Shaniwar Peth area.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is working on a proposal for shifting the location of the stalls.

According to PMC’s statistics, nearly 3 lakh idols are sold every year. A majority of these idols are sold through stalls located in different areas. Dengle Bridge is one of the most prominent places.

This year, Pune metro work has begun near Dengle Bridge. Therefore, there is no open place available.

Now, the civic body has started searching for a place where they can accommodate idol makers.

Currently, the PMC has found a place near Vartak Garden on the riverbed road. However, the place has not been finalised yet.

The civic body will have to take permission from Khadakwasla Irrigation Division as the Mutha river comes under its jurisdiction and the river and river bed is the property of Khadakwasla Irrigation Division.
