Pune, 4th November 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has suspended branch engineer Aakash Dhengre following the discovery of major irregularities in sewage maintenance and repair activities in the Shewalewadi and Manjari areas, which are part of the Hadapsar–Mundhwa regional office.
Additional Commissioner Pavneet Kaur has initiated a departmental investigation and asked for a detailed report on the deficiencies.
Previously, during Diwali, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram conducted an inspection of these areas and identified numerous safety issues, such as damaged and broken chambers, blocked roadside ducts, and inadequate drainage maintenance, all posing direct risks to residents.
After this inspection, an internal report was submitted to the Additional Commissioner, emphasizing significant negligence in the sewer department's operations.
During the investigation, Dhengre was identified as the officer responsible for supervising maintenance activities. Despite being issued a show-cause notice, he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation, leading to his suspension from municipal responsibilities.
After recently assuming her role, Additional Commissioner Kaur promptly took action within a week, emphasizing her firm commitment to accountability in the civic organization. Previously, Commissioner Ram had suspended two engineers from the construction department due to their involvement in a Transferable Development Rights (TDR) case.
These successive suspensions indicate that the Pune civic administration is tightening its grip on negligence and corruption, signal a phase of stronger internal discipline within the PMC.
