PMPML probe into dismissal of employees will continue

Pune: The ongoing inquiry into the dismissal of 158 Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) employees will continue till the final report is submitted, though the Board of Directors passed a resolution urging a rollback of the decision taken by then Chairman and Managing Director Tukaram Mundhe.

Mundhe dismissed 158 employees for being absent for 22 continuous days. These employees - mostly drivers - were working on contractual basis. After this, employees’ absence has come under control.

Recently, a PMPML Board of Directors’ meeting was held on the issue. The inquiry will continue till the final report is submitted. “There will be no effect of the resolution on the inquiry. Action will be taken after the final report’s submission. There are 375 permanent and 175 contractual employees who are going through the inquiry, which was initiated by then CMD Mundhe,” said a highly placed official of PMPML.

Nayana Gunde, who recently joined PMPML as CMD, had said the dismissal of employees will be heard on a case-to-case basis. Notably, the decision to dismiss the 158 employees was strongly opposed by the employees’ unions and the authority was pressurised to roll back its decision.
